I am not a native of Budapest. Maybe this helps me look at the treasures of Budapest in a different way, and prevents me from passing by its hidden beauties automatically. I let them influence me, I try to imagine those historical moments that made the square, the street, the house or the church known. As a teacher of history I think that history is not made up of school books, but should build on sensual experiences – on buildings that we can observe, on dramatic or comic stories that we hear. Budapest has a way of telling us about herself, if we have the curiosity to listen well. As a professional guide, I am eager to ask the city questions every day. And she responds. Nehéz Győző

Budapest is my home. This is where I was born, raised; where I live.
Ever since I was child past events or relics have never ceased to fascinate me. Perhaps it is why I’ve studied to be a historian, and why I prefer a city’s covert beauty to grandiose sight such as a Royal palace or a Citadel. I search out beauty that is veiled not only from the eye of the unsuspecting visitor but often from the local resident’s, too. But not from mine or of those who choose to follow.
Hunting for treasures is my life and my career as a tour guide. With my groups we share the excitement of living at the brink of a new discovery every day.
