Sándor Rózsa is the Hungarian Robin Hood of the 19th century: he held raids in many parts of the country, followed by the police of the time, always getting away through the system of tunnels under the inns. These tunnels that are a few metres in length are still being showed to visitors.
There were no robbers nor policemen on the chase in Kőbánya, but there is a wide range of tunnels under its vast area. This labyrinth is a system of winding corridors that run for more than 30 km (!!!) and are 4-5 metres wide – this is where Anton Dreher became famous and where Messerschmidt airplanes were later made. If you are interested to find out more about the history of the Kőbánya Pils, and would like to know where the stone lions of the Chain Bridge come from (Kőbánya means Stone Mine), and if you have never heard of the Kőbánya wines, than you can do what Sándor Rózsa cannot anymore:
